Venice Day 2

As usual, we woke up early to enjoy a great day site seeing. Unfortunately, Dad didn't feel well and hadn't slept much, so we let him go back to bed and Bruce and I went to do laundry. We had found a laundromate right around the corner from our room, so we lugged everyone's clothes over and tossed then in a washer. 10 Euros per wash, 8 Euros per dryer load. We are sure happy the Euro is currently at $1.06 exchange
While sitting there we met a nice couple form Melborne, Austrailia, who where in Venice with their two kids. They were visiting his father, who lives in Venice 6 months out of the year. They gave us some good tips on how to see the sites.
After the laundry was finished, we checked on Dad. He felt good enough to venture out, so we all started the trek through the narrow Venitian streets towards the Rialto Bridge. Since Bruce and I had last visited Venice 9 years ago, somebody had the bright idea to post direction signs throughout the city. Now its easy to wind your way towards any of the major attractions. Thank You!
The day was sunny, but chilly and windy, with highs in the upper 50.s By the time we got to the Rialto, it was lunch time, and we all needed to rest and eat. Dad and Alan sat on some steps that led down to the canal's water, and Bruce and I searched for a good place to eat. As expected, anything on the canal was crowded and expensive, so we found a quiet restaurant one block off the beaten path called the Ai Coghi that seemed perfect. We got the guys and took an inside table. It was nice to get a cozy seat out of the wind. They had a Tourist Special that gave you a three course lunch for 14 Euros each. We all enjoyed our selections, which included lasagna, fried calamari, roasted chicken, steamed spinach, and salad. The food was exceptional, and we all rated this as the best place we had eaten at yet.
We walked across the Rialto Bridge and headed towards St. Mark's Square. The crowds were getting thicker as we got closer. By the time we got to the square, the weather was even chillier, and the crowds were almost shoulder to shoulder. We managed to work our way into the center of the square, were it was not as crowded. It was 3 pm, and the famous bell towers started ringing as we marveled at the magnificent St Mark's Cathedral and the Duomo's Palace. We couldn't stay long, as Dad wanted to get back to his room, and the walk back was at least 40 minutes.
At the hotel, Dad and I ordered coffees in the lobby cafe, while Bruce and Alan grabbed some sodas. We sat and relaxed, watching the people and clouds pass by the Grand Canal.
For dinner, it was a unanimous decision - another Gelato day! We walked over the foot bridge and ate our ice cream, then came back to the hotel. It was another beautiful sunset over the canal. We went to our rooms to pack and get ready for tomorrow - cruise day!
