Thursday in Sarande, Albania

Over night we left Greece and headed to Albania for a one day visit in the city of Sarande.

 When we booked the cruise, we didn't find any tours that interested us, so we left this as a free day.

We decided all the walking we did in Greece we would rest today.   We sure needed time to get better for a final tour.



          Last night Bruce became ill. He is sure that it is a severe food allergy from something he ate at dinner, and he didn't sleep most of the night. This morning, he is still very nauseous, and can't eat anything.

       The rest of us went to breakfast, then back to the cabins. Bruce seemed a little better, and we all sat around talking and enjoying the sun. By early afternoon, being up sick all night caught up to Bruce and he laid down and slept. More sun and lounging on the balcony for the rest of us..

 Bruce still couldn't eat so he skipped dinner for more sleep, and Dad, Alan and I went to the restaurant. On the menu tonight was one of Bruce's favorites - baked cannelloni. Boy, he will be disappointed! I brought him a bread roll and ginger ale instead. He managed to eat almost half of it.

 The evening show was "Rythm of Icons" (that's the program spelling...not a typo!) It was another dance and singing review with acrobats - go figure. Dad and Alan opted out, and I went by myself.
They danced and sang songs by the Beetles, Queen, James Brown and Elvis Presley .

Dad is feeling much better and well rested, which is good since tomorrow is our final tour foot tour.

Full day in Rome April 3,2017

St Peter's Square     We all woke up early and headed to breakfast downstairs.  Coffee is espresso with warm milk according to our waiter's Español. Continental breakfast with bread, meat, cheese, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, pastries and fruit.     We got ready for our 10am Vatican tour by heading out at 9am for the Metro at Repubblica Station. Wow, it was a squeeze to get in, but luckily a lot of passengers got off at the next two stations. So glad to have paid for a tour because of huge crowds.   We enjoyed a full three hour tour of the Vatican museum, Rafael rooms, and the Sistine Chapel.  A marvelous sight to see in a room full of people.     Next stop was Saint Peters Basilica and the priceless sight of the Pietà. Dad was in awe at the detail that Michelangelo was able to carve into the marble.  We all marveled at the sights, including the dome by Michelangelo and the Bronze alter canopy by Bernini.      W...

Travel to Lucca, Italy

    Today is the day we travel to Lucca. After breakfast, we packed up and walked to the main train station in Rome. A short 10 minute walk with luggage was easy. We walked past people heading to work, sleeping bags with the homeless and many heading for the station like us.        For 40 minutes we waited and watched  the departure board, waiting for our terminal number.  Dad  had to use the restroom and asked a police officer ( in very broken Italian) where one was. Bruce headed with him for a wild goose chase, and never were able to find the bathroom. Our train came in with only a 10 minute window to board. Luckily it was the track right in front of the gate we had been waiting at.   The high speed train to Florence         We really enjoyed the high speed train.
