Back to Venice - Saturday
We got off the ship and gathered up our luggage from the baggage area, and walk out the door. That was it - no other security or customs checks. This was Bruce's 7th cruise (my 4th) and he said that it was the easiest disembarking he's ever had. I agree.
Once outside, we grab a cab. Our final hotel is across on the mainland, right next to the airport, and we say goodby to Venice again and head out.
It took about 20 minutes to get to the hotel. It is the newest hotel we've stayed in on this trip -probably only 3 or 4 years old. Most of this area looks like it is newer construction. We had to wait in the reception area for 2 hours while they cleaned our room.
The rooms are big, clean, and very nice. We can look out our room window and see the airport, where we will need to be tomorrow for our early shuttle flight to Rome. The hotel has a free airport shuttle, and we arranged a ride for tomorrow at 6 am.
The internet in the common area near the front desk was fast and strong. For some reason, our room has no internet. Alan, who's room is right next to ours, has a great signal. Go Figure. By now it's after 2 pm and we are all very hungry, but there isn't anything close by to this hotel. The hotel's restaurant is only open for breakfast and dinner.
The nice young lady at the desk said there is a good Italian restaurant down the road that will send a free shuttle to pick us up and return us to the hotel. She called and 5 minutes later we we riding down the road. The restaurant was a very nice place, newer construction, and not crowded. In fact, there were a bunch of local police there for what appeared to be a lunch meeting, and that was about it. The staff didn't speak much English - our waitress spoke the most. That was fine as the menu was printed in both Italian and English.
We all ordered drinks and the lunch pizza which our waitress told us was just enough for one person. They bring us each a really good sized pizza each, which was delicious and some of the best pizza we had all trip. We all managed to finish them, except for Dad, who had a half a pizza left for dinner. The bill was very reasonable - about 52 Euro for all of us. (about $56 US)
We shuttle back to the hotel and relax, watching a bit of TV. Once again, we have limited English channels. By this time we were used to watching shows dubbed in Italian. It's almost fun seeing how much we can understand!
By 7 pm, Alan and Bruce were getting hungry, so the headed to the hotel Restaurant for something light to eat and drink. Dad stayed in his room reading and eating leftover pizza, and I went to the lobby to use the powerful wifi connection.
We repacked our suitcases for airline travel, and went to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day of travel.
