Arrive in the port at Bari - Sunday April 9
Today, we were able to sleep in and relax on the cruise. We ported in Bari, a nice coastal town in Italy. When we booked the cruise, we figured everyone would be due for a rest day by now, so we did not schedule any excursions for today. Besides, we had just spent a week traveling in Italy, so we figured to skip one!! The day was sunny but cool, with highs only in the upper 50's.
The first thing this morning Bruce and I went to the service desk because we received a letter saying that we missed the Mustar Drill, which was not true. Thank goodness the staff believed us and we did not have to attend the make up drill later today.
We were lucky to have the city of Bari on our balcony side of the ship. We sat in our chairs to watch the port activities. Bari has a lively port, and we watched a car ferry (with the word "Superfast" painted on its hull) dock, unload, and then re-load with vehicles and people. It was fascinating on how they were able to coordinate so many activities simultaneously, without accident, an we watched the proceedings throughout the day.
On a sad note, we noticed another car ferry docked right off our bow. It was a derelict, and obviously had an on board fire. It was the Norman Atlantic, a ship that had been returning from Piraus, Greece when a fire broke out in the car area. This was in 2014, and quite a few people lost their lives.
At 10:30 am - Alan and Bruce wanted a 2nd breakfast and Dad and I wanted another cup of coffee, so we headed to the buffet. There is never a lack of food on a cruise! We returned to our balconies to watch "Superfast" continue its mission. Bruce and I got a kick when over a dozen class C RVs arrived to be transported. They were the smaller style RVs, probably 22 to 26 feet in length.
Dad was not feeling well and not hungry by the time lunch rolled around, so Bruce, Alan and I went to lunch and enjoyed the views of Bari from the back of the ship.
Back to watch "Superfast", which finished by 2:30 and quickly left. The passengers that had disembarked started to make their way back on board, as our ship was leaving port by 4:30 pm
We lounged around talking until dinner and tonight was Casual Dress night. Again, we enjoyed another very good meal.
Tonight we went to the show at the Theatre Carlo Felice called "La Voce Del Cuore in Italiamore". All songs were sung in Italian. It was basically a lounge act sung by three performers - two men and a woman. The Italians in the crown seemed to love it, but it didn't thrill us.
Tomorrow is a big day - our first day in GREECE!!!!
